My Daughter’s Current Event as my Blog Entry? Yes.
October 12, 2010
I
know you hear about it a lot, but I’m just so proud of my kids. I feel like they’ve really taken to the idea of
becoming something lately. Even our youngest, Matthew, is concerned with being the best little league baseball player he can
be – it’s surprising how concerned he is about his body. (When I commented on this, he said, “Well Mom…
it is my body and my life, isn’t
it? I have to use it well.”) Anyway, our oldest has to do a short current topic for her government class and when she
came home and started researching on it, she brought to my attention that a federal judge form California ordered the repeal
of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” I’m sure you’ve heard about it. It’s all over the news.
“Virginia Phillips this,” “Virginia Phillips that.” (Virginia Phillips is the judge who ordered the
repeal.) Despite some pretty harsh comments from a few people, I’ve heard some good about it. Myself? I really commend
Virginia Phillips. I’ve read a lot that she’s very committed to each case that she works on. I think it was actually
just the other day that I read she even types up some of her own court orders just so they’re done right. (Like I tell
my kids, if you want something done right, do it yourself.) And she seems so passionate about this court ruling! I hear that
the government is considering asking for a stay on the ruling, but I’m betting she won’t budge .Which she shouldn’t.
She shouldn’t be persuaded by someone else has a different value system than her own. As citizens we definitely have
control over this situation, and I think as individuals we can decide what to do about this. But we can’t just jump
to a decision. The right thing to do would to be really think about it. I hate how some people, when asked about it, have
no opinion. That’s so wrong! I have thought about it a little already, and I definitely don’t like how the military
has a say about who can or can’t join the military. Nothing or no one should be able to keep us from being what we want
to be – or tell us what we should be, either. If a person has chosen to be gay or lesbian, they should be permitted
to join. I’m definitely going to look more into this tonight. First I need to get supper though… speaking of which,
I loved your responses to yesterday’s blog! You all have some really great dishes and I think I’m going to try
out the chicken ring tonight. I’ve never really liked chicken, but hey, I can change that, can’t I?
Quick Dinner Ideas
October 11, 2010
Don’t
get me started about busy-ness. As someone who teaches her children that it’s more important what you “do”
than what you “believe,” I know all about “doing.” So that
“doing” all the time leaves little room for good dinners – or so it seems. I thought today I would provide
you with a few of my favorite

What a job!
I might describe my job in a little more detail here. I'll write about what I do, what I like best about it, and even some
of the frustrations. (A job with frustrations? Hard to believe, huh?)
